Adopt-an-Island
The Gardeners' Guild of Braintree has been responsible for overseeing and implementing the Adopt-an-Island Program for the Town of Braintree since 1999. As coordinator, Kerri Eck became enthusiastic with the opportunity to increase the number of clients which in turn, enrich and beatify our community. The goal of The Adopt-an-Island Program is to beautify Braintree and at the same time give local businesses or private citizens the chance to encourage patronage by successfully maintaining islands that display a sign with their name on it. We currently have 29 clients who beautify their locations beginning each season on Memorial Day through the first frost in October/November. The clients have made an agreement under contract with the Town to keep their adopted areas free of weeds and trash and mowed, if necessary. Some clients have planters which must be watered and in bloom throughout the season. Each site is approved for the maintenance season with the first option for renewal given to those who have kept up with their commitment. It is understood that if improvements have not been made or periodic maintenance has not occurred, this agreement may be cancelled. A Braintree Beautification sign is displayed at each location with the Town Seal and client or company name.
